Stock market holidays:The Indian stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, will be closed for trading on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, on account of Christmas.
This will mark the last stock market holiday of 2024. Most global markets, including the UK, the US, and Europe, will also be shut tomorrow. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will have no trading or settlement in stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on Wednesday. That apart, the currency, and commodity markets, too, will be closed tomorrow.
On December 26, 2024, Thursday, trade will restart. Due to Mahashivratri, the next Indian market holiday is scheduled for February 26, 2025.
Hours of trading on the stock market Weekday hours for the Indian stock market are 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
On typical trading days, there is also a pre-open session from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM. On Saturdays and Sundays the market is closed.
On Christmas, will the commodities market be open? On December 25, 2024, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be completely closed, with no trade in the morning or evening. Similarly, India's biggest agri-commodity exchange, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), would continue to be closed.
Market summary: Monday's trading session saw the major benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, end a five-day losing run and close in the green. The NSE's Nifty50 surged 0.95 percent, or 165 points, to conclude at 23,753.45 levels, while the BSE Sensex increased 0.64 percent, or 498.58 points, to settle at 78,540.17. Twenty of the thirty stocks on the BSE Sensex ended the day higher, with the top gainers being ITC, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and IndusInd Bank, and the biggest laggards being Zomato, Maruti, and HCL Tech.
In a similar vein, the day ended well for bulls on the NSE, with 32 of 50 equities closing higher. The biggest gainers were JSW Steel, ITC, and Hindalco, while the top losers were HeroMoto Corp, Maruti, and HCL Tech.
