Google Messages will allow you to record a 3-second 'Selfie GIF'

After adding a custom camera, Google Messages should currently create "Selfie GIFs".

To access it, open a chat and long-press the camera symbol in the text field. Right now, a single click opens the sheet with a small camera viewfinder and drop-down exposure. The way Selfie GIF is not essential for the new custom camera is quite strange.

Google also says "you can also save a selfie GIF by tapping a message in the chat." This looks like one of the recommended activity prompts, which now include Join Late Photos, Offer Zone, and Start a Video Call.

You'll get a concise start with a natural recording start and end. It's also possible to press the red button to physically start recording, as well as restart since there are no editable controls. These Selfie GIFs are only 3 seconds long and saved to your camera roll for easy, shareable access.

I can see how this may very well be a fool's errand and giving people a GIF producer might inspire them to attempt to capture Plant-like photos.

A help article for this new item is currently live, but we don't yet see a Selfie GIF made on the gadgets (beta or stable). This is the newest expressive component of Google Messages and helps me remember Voice Mind-sets, which have just been completed for some clients. Oddly enough, Google hopes to have sent out the sound recorder update for those on the regular channel, but most beta customers don't even have it for a moment.
